Capturing Love Sustainably: Meet Ballad Wedding Productions at the Eco Wedding Festival
When it comes to capturing the magic of a wedding day, few do it with as much heart and artistry as Ballad Wedding Productions. Founded by creative duo Saph and Michael, this Worcester-based team blends cinematic storytelling with deep commitment to sustainability. From second-hand camera gear to vegan values, their approach is as thoughtful as it is beautiful. We caught up with them ahead of the Eco Wedding Festival on Sunday 5th October to hear more about their journey, their eco ethos, and what couples can expect when they visit their stand.
Tell us a bit about your business and how it started:
Ballad Wedding Productions is one year old this September and what a first year it's been! Fourteen years ago Saph and Michael met at the University of Kent where he studied film and fine art and she studied theatre and have been together ever since. Michael has been a commercial film maker for over 8 years and Saph has always been passionate about photography. When asked to record a family wedding in 2024 they loved the experience so much they decided to start the business together. As a filmmaker-photographer duo we work with couples to capture weddings in a candid, low key way enabling them to relax and enjoy their day. The beautiful results reflect a uniquely artistic style with film and images of the highest quality. We are based in Worcester and since the start of 2025 we have been busy working with couples in the Midlands and all over the UK to tell the full story of their love - honest, emotive and timeless.
What makes your work eco-friendly or sustainable?
Our eco-friendly values extend to all areas of our business. Our equipment (e.g. our cameras/ lenses etc) is purchased second hand and reconditioned. We avoid buying new unless there is no alternative. We upcycle and recycle set props for shoots and wedding fayres - we love vintage items and buying from charity shops and online markets!
To limit fuel consumption, we use public transport when the location is accessible or car share where the venue is more remote. We provide clients with digital galleries for images and films to prevent the unnecessary use of paper and printing materials. We do not use any AI in our editing process to avoid the use of excess energy and water. To minimise our impact on the environment through meat and dairy production 2 of 3 of our team members are vegan and the 3rd is pescatarian. We are always looking for ways to do more to be a sustainable business and are super keen to learn from other suppliers in the Eco Wedding community
What can couples expect to see from you at the Eco Wedding Festival?
We love meeting people as they plan for their weddings and are looking forward to speaking to couples who care about sustainability and the world around us as much as we do. We will be sharing our approach to capturing weddings and also showcasing our uniquely cinematic results. Couples will see a nice big screen and examples of our films and images. We will have some special festival offers available on the day.
What’s your top tip for planning a sustainable wedding?
We love a DIY wedding and many of our clients do too! Instead of asking for wedding gifts ask friends and family to pitch in with food and decorations - the combined efforts create something uniquely personal. Enjoy the process of selecting beautiful preloved or vintage products to reuse or upcycle and don't feel rushed into anything just because you have seen it at someone else's wedding or on Social Media.
