“If Henry does not lead, these nobles cannot follow, and so they will feast on their own appetites. I must stitch the tapestry of this kingdom together with knots I pray will hold.”

Downpour Theatre Company presents Jeanie O’Hare’s phenomenal 2018 play, Queen Margaret, to be performed this July at Blackfriars Priory, Gloucester (2nd and 3rd July).

Inspired by Shakespeare's tetralogy (Henry VI, part I, II & III, Richard III), Jeanie O'Hare uses original Shakespearean text alongside new dialogue to retell the Wars of the Roses through the eyes of Margaret of Anjou. Hungry for power and angered by the weakness of their king, the nobles of Henry VI's court plot and scheme against each other. As Henry wavers and the factions split, Queen Margaret is determined to hold on to power and protect the crown for the sake of her child.
